He's the guy everyone loves to hate. Stan's ego is further inflated when he becomes the 21st player in major league baseball history to reach the 3,000 hit mark. Never one to think of the team, Stan retires mid-season assuming that he has secured his place in the Hall of Fame.

Ten years later, Stan, still trying to hold on to his glory days, learns that due to a statistical error, he is actually three hits shy of the 3,000 mark. Desperate for publicity and a rise in ticket sales, the Brewers reluctantly agree to let Stan rejoin the team in pursuit of the three missing hits.

Upon his return to the game, Stan is faced with the rude awakening that there is a new crop of players who are better and faster than he was at his prime.

To complicate things is a reporter and former flame, Mo Simmons (Angela Bassett) who arrives on the scene to chronicle his comeback and stirs up old feelings.

In pursuit of history, Stan ultimately reinvents himself; becoming the player he never was…hard working, enthusiastic and selfless. Will he reclaim the title of Mr. 3000 or put aside his personal goals for the sake of his team and a life with the woman he loves?
